sea state

Become a better surfer without turning the ocean into another place you have to prove yourself.

Surfing already changed your life… but you know there’s so more for you in your surf journey.

More turns you want to do
More waves you want to catch
More boards you want to ride.
More places you want to surf.
More style you want to develop.
More things you want to experience.
More things you want to FEEL.

But maybe “more” isn't the whole point.

Maybe you want less.

Less wondering what you're supposed to work on.
Less overthinking the wave you didn't go on.
Less watching yourself surf and not knowing what you're looking at.
Less trying to figure out by yourself.
Less feeling like you have to prove you belong in male-dominated lineups.
Less replaying what you did wrong on the drive home.
Less waiting until you're good enough to try the maneuver.

Sea State is where that stops.

  • Your surf roadmap. I build a personalized roadmap for your surfing so you always know what you're working on. We refine it overtime.

  • The tutorial library. Every maneuver, including my own surfing — slowed down, drawn on, pulled apart. Not jut a quick edit.

  • The energetics vault. Mindset work to build self-trust and courage, to integrate + reprogram.

  • Coaching platform. A channel to ask me anything, get clip reviews, and a monthly call where we go deep.

  • Sea State experiences. First access to meetups, sessions, and retreats.

Sea State is where you get to take your surfing seriously, get real coaching, and become the surfer you're capable of becoming—without losing the joy that made you fall in love with the ocean in the first place

Founding membership is limited to 25 women.

real coaching for your actual surfing

Sea State isn't another library of random surf tips (ew).

I want to change your surfing.

I want you to surf on rail (and full understand what that means).

I want you to understand your technique, generate speed, make better decisions, catch better waves, improve your turns, learn the maneuvers you're dreaming about, and develop your own style.

You send in your surfing (or your inspo surfing) and we break it down.

Technique.
Positioning.
Timing.
Wave selection.
Speed.
Line choice.
Maneuvers.
Boards.
Style.
Decision-making.

What are you doing well?
What needs attention?
What should you work on next?
And how do you actually practice it?

No vague advice. No trying to fix everything at once.

Just someone who knows your surfing and can help you see what comes next.

your surfing needs a direction

Silhouettes of two people performing yoga poses on a beach at sunset with the ocean and cloudy sky in the background.

You don't become the surfer you want to be by collecting random tips.

You need to know where you're going.

That's why the first thing you get inside Sea State is your Surf Roadmap.

You’ll tell me about your surfing history, your waves, your boards, your inspiration, the surfers and maneuvers you love, what you're struggling with, how you want to surf, how much time you actually have, where you want to go—and your 5-year vision for your surfing (!)

I'll take all of it and build your personal roadmap.

Not a curriculum.
Not a list of skills to check off.

A bigger picture of where your surfing is going and how we're going to start getting there.

Your first Surf Roadmap is deep.

It's the foundation we keep coming back to as you grow.

And your roadmap isn't something we make once and forget about.

Every few months, when you're ready for a new chapter, you'll have the option to complete a Seasonal Guide.

We look at:

What have you been practicing?
What's changed?
What are you proud of?
What gave you energy?
What isn't working anymore?
What do you want to explore now?

Then we choose what's next.

A focus.
Supporting moves.
Your rhythm.
Your intention.
Things to explore.

Reflect. Choose. Practice. Notice. Repeat.

Because your surfing isn't static.

You change. Your surfing changes. Your goals change.

Sea State changes with you.

A woman standing on rocks near the beach, carrying a surfboard on her shoulder.

and then there's everything that comes with being a woman in a male-dominated sport.

Silhouettes of two women performing yoga poses on a beach at dusk, with the ocean and cloudy sky in the background.

Surfing has its own culture.

And sometimes being a woman in it means navigating a lot more than just the wave in front of you.

The intimidation.

The comparison.

The perfectionism.

The feeling that everyone else knows something you don't.

The hesitation to paddle for the wave.

The fear of looking bad.

The feeling that you need to be better before you can take up space.

The pressure to prove you belong in a lineup that wasn't necessarily built with you in mind.

Sea State is a place to work on that too.

Not so you can become tougher.

So you can become more yourself.

I want you to try the thing without thinking about whether anyone is watching.

I want you to go for the set.

I want you to fall and laugh and paddle back out.

I want you to watch a video of yourself surfing and genuinely think:

I fucking love the way I surf.

That's the kind of confidence we're after.

A woman standing on rocks at the beach, holding a surfboard over her shoulder, with the ocean in the background.

this is a rebellion.

Silhouettes of two women practicing yoga on the beach during sunset.

We were taught to measure everything by how good we are at it. Every love turned into a metric. Every joy into a project.

Even surfing became one more thing to get better at. One more place to fall behind, compare ourselves, and prove ourselves.

Sea State isn't against progression. We built this because we believe in good surf technique, good style, personalized coaching, and real growth. That’s the foundation of sea state. What we're against is the idea that you have to earn your place before you're allowed to belong, enjoy yourself, or call yourself a surfer.

You belong because you love the ocean. That's the requirement. The coaching, the community, the technique work, all of it is here to help you take your progression seriously, without ever taking the joy hostage.

Where surfing gets to be a devotion again, not a performance. Where you build life around the waves on purpose, alongside women who are doing the same.

what sea state is built on

you might be one of us if…

A group of women at the beach, smiling and laughing, with a purple surfboard in the background.
  • You keep saying you want to surf more, and the weeks keep going by anyway.

  • You're a little intimidated by your local lineup, and you're tired of pretending you're not.

  • Surfing sometimes feels like the only thing that matters. You plan your life around the tides. You wake up before the sun, or you move your whole schedule so you can surf midday when it's glassy. But you still feel lost on the journey.

  • You're building work-life balance so you can go surf whenever you want to, but you still don’t have examples of how women are doing that in real life.

  • Your surfboards are your birkins.

  • One good session can be the highlight of your whole month

  • You don't want bro culture or big egos. You’re tired of male dominated lineups making you feel small.

  • You don't know what board to buy next, but you know it's the thing that unlocks your next level, and you don't know who to ask.

  • You want surfing to feel joyful again. Not like logistics. Not like proof you're good enough to be there.

  • You're not looking for a bootcamp. You're looking for a way to improve your surfing without the stress.

  • What you actually want, under all of it: to be seen. In your surfing, and in your love for it. And to find the women who feel it too.

  • You've wanted this for a long time. And wanting it quietly has started to feel like settling.

The feedback and coaching has been great because I want to surf just like Maddy haha, and her tips have been on point and super clear. I’ve been in other coaching programs where the feedback feels really general. It was so fulfilling. I know I’ll be friends with them for life. Big statement, I know, but I wouldn’t say it if I didn’t truly feel that way!

More than successful experience. I improved my surfing skills and got exactly what I needed. I also learned a ton about surfboards, loved it. But honestly, my favorite part was meeting new friends who I clicked with right away (and have been hanging out with even after the program ended), which is not easy these days. I really enjoy the online meetups (even felt so much fomo about missing one due to travels haha ☹️), and I can’t wait to go on a surf trip with them in a month!

Sea State Tour:

Sea State is a private community for women surfers who want more support, structure, and connection in their surfing.

Think of it like having a bigger surf crew and coaches who are there for you week after week, month after month, who get to know your surfing over time. Inside, you’ll find a home for the full surf journey: the technique breakthroughs, the practical progression, the questions that come up between sessions, the confidence-building, and the deeper work that shapes how you show up in and out of the water.

Coaching that grows with you

Submit your surf clips for detailed video breakdowns, including wave lines drawn directly onto your footage and clear feedback on what to work on next. You can also submit clips of surfers who inspire you—whether that’s Mikey February or Stephanie Gilmore—and get a breakdown of what they’re doing.

Coaching comes from Maddy and Timmy, a professional surfer, so you’re not just receiving one-off advice. You’re building an ongoing relationship with coaches who understand your goals and progression.

A community that keeps you intentional

Each month, we come together for group coaching calls, with recordings available to revisit anytime. Weekly check-ins create space for surf intentions, wins, journal prompts, vision boards, favorite surf videos, trip stories, and the real-life moments that come with learning to surf.

Because the more you name your wins, the more you begin to see them.

Support beyond the lineup

Sea State includes an evolving library of resources shaped by what members want to learn—from roundhouses, backside cross steps and nose rides to surfboards, shaping, and workshops with guest speakers.

You’ll also find deeper resources for reconnecting with your love of surfing: guided workbooks, journaling playlists, and conversations around self-trust, self-betrayal, and the mindset side of progression.

Ask questions anytime, get coaching on the go, meet other members at Sea State events, and become part of a community that’s here to cheer you on—both in and out of the water.

It feels like a supportive little family! Truly such a safe place to come as you are & dive deeper into your surfing in a way that is tailor fit for you. I felt zero judgement - I felt very understood, and fell in love with the community of gals Sea State brought to the table!

Almost like a reset button for my surf journey in the best way possible. The feedback leaves me feeling more encouraged than before, because Maddy & Timmy give such practical advice that really helps things click. The coaching I receive inside Sea State is so helpful, personable, and encouraging.I feel empowered to trust myself and it has so many practical technique tools - which helped my confidence so much. And the community feels so refreshing!

It’s truly so much more than just coaching - it’s a community that embraces you, hears you, and supports you wherever you are in your surf journey.”

Maddy

Marine biologist turned ocean artist, surfer, and founder of Sea State. I’ve spent most of my life finding my way back to the water. I was a scientific diver at Scripps Oceanography, lived aboard a sailboat for nearly a decade, and built a career around telling stories about the ocean through science, art, photography, and surfing.

Surfing can change the way we move through the world. It asks us to be present, to trust ourselves, to take up space, to get comfortable being uncomfortable, and to keep paddling toward the life we actually want.

Over the years, I’ve watched how much can change when women have the right people around them. More confidence. Bigger dreams. More adventure. More willingness to try the thing they thought was out of reach. That’s why I created Sea State.

I want to help more women surf better, trust themselves more deeply, and build lives around the ocean. Because I don’t think we’re meant to make our lives smaller. Sea State is an invitation to imagine what else might be possible.

Timmy

Your favorite surfer's favorite surfer. The eternal grom, whether he's in a 20 foot barrel or 2 inches of whitewater. No one on earth is more stoked than Timmy. He's a professional surfer who left the championship tour, at 11th in the world, to chase his real vision: become one of the most barreled people on the planet.

He's also a true mermaid, deeply in touch with the ocean, which is exactly why he thrives in this space with us.

Our technique coach, our insider for all things surf, and the one always reminding us not to take life too seriously, that the wins are worth celebrating, and that learning is supposed to be fun.

Not everyone gets to work with one of the best and most barreled surfers in the world. Timmy’s job in Sea State is to answer any technique questions in our video analysis coaching. He also helps film our meetups and retreats too.

Plus he’s the hook up for ordering surfboards, gear, or answering any other questions you have.

Pro-Surfer, Technique Coach

Lauren

I’ve spent the last six years as a brand marketer at Surfline sharing the stories of surfers who live and breathe the ocean, and somewhere along the way I became one of them.

That work has taken me to incredible breaks around the world and completely unlocked my obsession with surf travel, warm water, and the kind of trips you plan your whole year around. I live in Santa Cruz, surf here as much as I can, and have made a home in this grungy feral surf town life.

I’m fluent in Spanish and chronically drawn to Latin America. Dolphin energy is my natural state.

I came to Sea State because I believe surfing and ocean devotion can be a real platform for healing, for women coming back to themselves, taking up more space, and building lives that actually feel aligned. As community manager I’m here to nurture that. To show up for the women in this community and help us find our way.

Community Manager

Sea state, was an incredible community space where I felt seen for the first time with lots of my struggles with surfing.

It felt really intentional, kind, and collaborative. With sea state, I started to allow more flow into my life and take my time getting out there, practicing mindfulness, and intention.

If you have felt stuck, and are open to joining a community of women who are experiencing similar feelings - join. It can be really empowering to enter a space where you can be yourself, and work through the walls we all hit when we are trying to improve at a sport that isn’t consistent.

You’re about to understand your relationship to the surf better, and with yourself. It’s 100% worth it. Joining Sea State will facilitate rediscovering the joy and purpose for getting out there.

Become a Founding Member

Join now and help shape this community.

Sea State is an ongoing membership. A coaching relationship + your crew for the long haul, not a program you finish. And this is the first time it's ever opened to a small community of friends and family.

Founding members lock in this price forever.

When the price goes up for everyone else, yours never changes.

The founding rate ends when this first group fills.

Founding members set the tone of this whole movement. That's you.

For way too long I thought becoming a better surfer was the thing that would finally make me feel like I belonged. More confidence, better waves, more experience. But surfing doesn't work that way. Belonging doesn't come after you become good enough.

You belong because you love the ocean. That's the requirement.

Sea State isn't a place you prove yourself before you're welcomed in. You're seen from the moment you arrive. As a woman who loves the water, who is passionate about surfing. Your tendencies, your style, your strengths, your next step. Personalized for your own signature surf style, rather than being forced into someone else's mold.

That's where real belonging and real coaching both begin: being seen.
